Why Cats Like To Eat Curling Ribbon

Estrella Morente,

of sadness art

Lili Castella

On 8 February, as part of the Flamenco Festival London 2011, the singer Estrella Morente concert faced perhaps the most difficult of his career, for being the first offering after the sudden and unexpected death of his father , Enrique Morente, exquisite music that we have spent more than an entry in this blog. Enrique Morente was everything for her daughter, of course, his father, but also her music teacher and life, his adviser, his mentor, the producer of their records, etc. Star said he, in the press conference before the concert: "He was my reason for living, my reason to sing ... Was everything. I feel every day the need to see, to speak with him, to consult, to hug ... And suddenly my life has become finding a way. In this I am, from the prudence and discretion that he taught me, but also from the risk and excitement. "

that day in London, Estrella Morente was broken by sadness, yes, but nonetheless decided to give the concert, which, incidentally, in the opinion of critics and attendees, proved unforgettable. A blow so forceful as the death of a loved one is one of the toughest tests they must confront the human being, but it is not unique. So understand the dervish, who, going beyond, the Council, in accordance with the teachings of the Koran, that our lives are but a constant succession of tests and challenges. Dervish knows no time, experience or event in our existence which is not a test (ibtilâ '), whereby Life-to-case, or he, as preferred, invited to respond, to show what that each carries.

Commenting on the Qur'anic term ibtilâ ' (test, challenge) [1], Abdurrahman Mohamed Maanen describes how, faced with any challenge, there are only two reactions: the one that "ignoring Allah" (kafir), sees itself as the center and actor all, or that of one other than, "sensing and knowing Allah" (Mu'min), is aware that in reality nothing has or is leading to nothing. So, when life fills us with favor, the kafir thought to be due to the success and merit of their own (without seeing that this same consideration is shielding him in his deification, in his arrogance and selfishness), while the Mu'min, knowing that nothing you own and that there is nothing other than pure gift of divinity, he feels but thanks. Also, at times of misfortune, the kafir despises himself and is considered inferior, oppressed and victim of circumstances from which he will flee or refuse to coast it is, while the reaction of Mu'min be "patience and perseverance, knowing that the avatars come from Allah, the Truth that beats deep in the events and brings together the immeasurable-to bring out what is in man."

If the same circumstances to fit two reactions, may fit think the crux of the matter not so much on the circumstances, as in our reaction to them. And surely the dervish, or Mu'min , one who has realized that the true test is to understand that under the apparently pairs of opposites (happiness and sorrow, fortune or misfortune, etc..) Or perhaps better, in themselves, late one truth, which is "La ilaha il.lâ Allah" that is, that there is nothing that happens that is not the expression of Him who has understood this, no need to escape or protect themselves at all, but on the contrary, all integrated into the unique and rich tapestry of life.

If there is anything we confront both the smallness and insignificance of our claims as to the mystery and immensity of all that exists and we are, is death. Before it can be denial and flight, or otherwise, as did Estrella Morente to cope with their concert, receive and integrate, to the point that the singer say "And the performances? They are a cry straight from the soul. " Who is able to receive and integrate each and every one of the challenges and evidence presented, the pain and fear that it sometimes behaves, he begins to have small glimpses of this unique fabric that everything relates subtle and not I can only attest to this through what is and what it does. This certainly Enrique Morente concerned when his daughter said in that press conference prior to the concert "My father taught me to turn sadness into art." Although the true challenge, the essential and unique challenge, assuming, probably transforms the life of a human being in a true work of art, throws Mawlana Rumi (d. 1273) when, with stunning clarity, says "The whole world is he, but where are those who know do?".
